Standard Necklace Lengths for Women

Typically, necklaces for women range anywhere from 10 - 48 inches in length. Although some necklaces are sold in odd-inch lengths, most women’s necklaces are sold in even-inch length measurements. The following are the most commonly sold necklace lengths and where they fall on an average female body:

Choker ~ 14 to 16 Inches :

A choker is 14 – 16 inches long.

Princess ~ 17 to 19 Inches :

Princess length is 18 inches (45 cm), but this size can actually range anywhere between 17 and 19 inches (43 and 48 cm). This length usually falls out at the collarbone.

Matinee ~ 20 Inch :

Matinee length is 20 inches (50 cm), which usually extends just a bit below the collarbone.

Opera ~ 26 to 36 Inches :

For a necklace that falls just below the neckline, choose a 24-inch (60-cm) chain.

Rope ~ 37 inches or longer :

A pearl rope is 37 inches or longer.
